The third night of the tournament brought some fairly big upsets. Only four brackets correctly selected all three upsets on Saturday, including the new leader and 12-year veteran Justin Carruthers.
Not a single person went 8 for 8 on Saturday, the best was 7 accomplished by 19 people including Carruthers who shot up from 16th place to 1st.
This is Carruthers first time ever ending the day at the top of the leaderboard. The highest he has ever reached was 6th in the standings on April 6, 2019.
Also moving up and going 7-for-8 Saturday were rookie Aaron Ryan and 8-year veteran Kevin Lawrie who both rose seven spots into a tie for second place.
The biggest rise of the day was rookie Nick Lisauaskas who moved up 444 spots into 112th place. Lisauskas also went 7-8 for the day.

In our Survivor Pool, we started the day with 48 people. After some major upsets, nearly half of the pool was eliminated. The main reason was St. John’s and Wisconsin who accounted for 17 of the eliminations.
Only 26 people remain, led by Ted Kalthoff who has racked up an amazing 34 seed points. Kalthoff went against the grain and chose to pick seeds 9 (Gonzaga), 12 (Colorado St.), 6 (BYU) and 7 (St. Mary’s) so far. Nobody else is even 10 points away from Kalthoff who has an excellent chance of winning this pool if it comes down to a tie-breaker on seed usage.

In the First Family pool, not much has changed. The Tredway family continues to hold on to the top spot in the 4-6 division and the Brotemarkles and Millers are tied for first in the 7-9 division.
In Couple Up, Spencer Royer and Emery Brotemarkle are in first.

This year’s Anchor Award goes to rookie Mason Bell. Bell ended with just 8 correct picks with no remaining teams left in his bracket. While Bell didn’t break the record of four correct picks set by Henry Pilar in 2019, Bell enters the record book with the 8th worst bracket of all time.
