Day One Recap – March 20, 2025

We’ve made it! Day one of the NCAA Tournament first round games.

After 16 games, there is just one perfect bracket left.

13-year veteran, Jeff Kontz, was a perfect 16-for 16. Kontz has never been at the top of the standings. His highest mark was when he was 2nd in the standings after day one in 2011 on March 24. While Kontz is in first, history is against him as only one person has ever finished in the top ten in 18 years after being in first on day one.

Five others sit a full point behind Kontz in a tie for second place.

  • Jeff Maples (8-year veteran)
  • Chad Tredway (15-year veteran)
  • Emery Brotemarkle (6-year veteran)
  • Damon Solomon (14-year veteran)
  • Aaron Ryan (rookie)

In our Survivor Pool, we started the day with 60 people. At the end of the night, 51 made it through. Kansas accounted for four of the 9 eliminations, Missouri was responsible for two, while Georgia, Louisville and UC San Diego cost three others a chance at winning Survivor.

For our Family Pool, we continued with the change from last year. We are doing two divisions of families; those with 4-6 members and another division with 7-9 family members. After much research of past years, it looked as though larger families typically won the sidepot so we split it up.

At the current moment, The Knipp family leads the charge for the 4-6 division and in the 7-9 division, The Liebls, who are no strangers to the Family Pool, lead the way.

In Couple Up, Chad and Sabrina Tredway sit in first place by a 0.5 point margin over Penny Lamb and her son Teddy Madden.
