Filling Out a Bracket

A Look Into The Final Tally For Brackets

It looks like we have our final number for 2022. After tallying everything up, we have 605 brackets for this year making it the seventh highest number of entries in the pool’s 15-year history.

The original number was 601, but four brackets came through delayed on my server. The four were from 15-year pool participant Robyn Cook and her husband, Chad. I’ve posted those four below with their current standing. These brackets, so far, have no impact on the current Top 10 standings in the main pool or any of the sidepots.

60 Chad Cook 1 13.5 Duke
174 Robyn Cook 1 12.5 Zags
293 Robyn Cook 2 11.5 Ariz.
293 Chad Cook 2 11.5 Ariz.

So, what else is new with the 605 brackets? It pushed our career total of brackets to 7,178 over 15 years. Our 7,000th bracket was submitted by 11-year pool veteran, Patty Nugent.

I also want to send a thanks and welcome back The Lifers. These 18 people have participated in every year of the pool. Also, thanks to those people who have been in for 13 and 14 years straight.

Other Records

With 12 brackets this year, Daniel Miller moved into third place for most brackets submitted in a single year. He also holds the 1st and 2nd spots. If you’re curious, the most brackets submitted in a single year by one person is 17.

Miller used to hold the record for most brackets submitted without a Top 10 Finish, but he ended that streak with a 3rd place finish in 2019. The new record holder is Darin Petrie at 61 brackets. He is hoping to end that streak as well.

The top referrer in this year’s pool was Kelsey Williams with 12. That moved her into a tie for 8th place for most referrals. The leader is still Nicole Gillock who keeps moving up with 40.

In all, we had 71 new entrants for this year.

10 of our past 14 champions have returned. There has never been a 2-time champion in the pool’s history. Could this be the year? So far, none of the past champions are in the Top 100; but it’s still way too early.
